Success for Local Trainers
Three local racehorse trainers - Joe Murphy, Thomand O’Mara and P.J. Colville - had a number of successful results on the track last weekend. At Dundalk, on Saturday, ‘Ask Jack’, trained by Joe Murphy, Crampscastle, and ridden by Wayne Lordan, won the Fairways Hotel & Conference Centre Handicap by a length a three-quarters. Thomand O’Mara, Coolbawn, made a big impact, with a treble, on Sunday when he saddled two winners at Leopardstown and one at Killarney. At the Dublin venue ‘Eagles Pass’, ridden by Wayne Lordan, won the Milltown Handicap and ‘Castlebar Sling’ won the Glencullen Handicap ridden by M.A. Cleere while down in Killarney ‘Banna Man’ won the Ladies Race in the capable hands of Pauline Ryan. Also on Sunday, and somewhat closer to home, P.J. Colville, Railstown, had a memorable afternoon at the Tipperary Hunt Point-to-Point at Lisronagh. This well attended and well organised event was made all the more enjoyable and picturesque by the addition of very welcome sunshine. P.J. brought four runners to the track and saddled three winners. First success came in the Goffs Maiden Race when the 4-yr-old ‘Court Red Handed’, owned by P.J.’s wife, Gráinne, romped home an easy winner under Robbie McNamara. ‘Court Red Handed’ also won the prize for the best turned out horse, sponsored jointly by Bernie Maher, Opera on The Square, and Susan Archdeacon, Town & County, Fethard. This horse was beaten a length last time out in Portlaw and was well fancied. ‘Quiverhillmystar’, owned by the local Quiver Hill Racing Syndicate, was a popular winner of the Red Mills Mares Race in the hands of Keith Dalton. Keith, originally from Clonmel, was having his third race over the major obstacles and gave the mare an excellent ride to secure his first winner, which will surely be the first of many. ‘Johnsons Star’ owned by Frank McKevitt completed the hat-trick ridden by Kevin Power in the final race sponsored by Local Trainers.
Well done to all concerned.

May Procession
This year’s May Procession was blessed with beautiful weather which resulted in a very large turn out of children and adults. Our Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Tom Breen, led the procession with prayers and hymns, followed by Fr. Peter Haughey OSA, Fr. Timmy Walsh OSA, Fr. John Meagher OSA and Fr. Anthony McSweeney C.C. The leading group were followed by the Parish altar servers, First Communicants who received the sacrament on the previous day, and members of Fethard Boy Scouts who carried the statue of Our Blessed Lady.
The procession then made its way from the Parish Church along Main Street, through Burke Street and concluded at the Augustinian Abbey Church with Benediction.

Fethard Juvenile GAA Club
Our U14s were unfortunately knocked out of the South Championship by Ballyporeen on last Friday. They were slow getting out of the starting block on this occasion and never seemed to catch up along the way. Hard luck! The U16s are now awaiting results from the other semi-final to see whom they will meet next.
Fethard Juvenile Club had a wonderful day of fun and games in the GAA field on Sunday of last week to mark the 125th Anniversary Celebrations of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland.
It was a beautiful sunny day and over 100 children took part in games, skills and a penalty shoot-out with Tipperary goalkeeper Paul Fitzgerald. Brian Coen was also there to present the children with their medals. Thanks to both these local Tipperary players for making the effort to come to the field away from their busy schedules to spend time with the children for the afternoon.
There was also a great turnout from the parents and the Juvenile club would like to thank them for their support on the day, it was great to see so many parents attend. Each child was presented with a medal to mark this historic event and all were all well watered and fed to complete a wonderful day.
The Juvenile Club ask parents and members to cast back their memories and remember if anyone knows the whereabouts of the Brother Albert Cup and Shield as well as the Danagher Cup and shield. These trophies seem to have got lost over the years and the club are now anxious to get them back. If you have any idea as to where these may be please phone our club chairman Fran Conran, Tel: 087 1329694.

Fethard and Killusty Community Games
Fethard and Killusty Community games Committee would like to congratulate former competitor Laura Rice, Everardsgrange, who won the final of Tipp FM Premier Star Awards in Thurles recently. Laura always displayed plenty of talent over the years with the games. She participated in the Crown Paints Art Challenge on the May weekend a few years ago and represented Tipperary at the National Finals in Mosney in Art on three occasions and also in Volleyball. Laura competed at County Athletics finals on several occasions. Now an accomplished performer, we wish her the very best of luck in the future and who knows it would not be the first time we had former competitors in Eurovision.
Congratulations also to Caroline Stokes, Ballybough winner of a gold medal in the U12 Backstroke event at the County Swimming Finals and to the Morgan brothers from Grangebeg. David won a silver medal in U14 freestyle and Joseph won a bronze medal in U16 freestyle. William was second in his heat of U16 freestyle.
