DEATH OF WELL KNOWN SACRISTAN
In 1966, Jo was affiliated to membership of the Augustinian Order in recognition of her loyal service to the Abbey over the years. At a memorable ceremony in the Abbey Church on Sunday 20th March 1994, Fr. John Byrne OSA, Provincial of the Augustinian Order in Ireland, conferred Jo with the Papal Medal "Benemerenti". This honour was petitioned through His Grace Archbishop Dermot Clifford, to mark 75 years of dedicated service as Sacristan in the Augustinian Abbey.
Jo would have celebrated her 100th birthday on 25th March 2004. She will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, and especially by the regular Abbey Church congregation. Interment took place at Calvary Cemetery.
The Community Games annual church gate collection will also be taken up next weekend 26th and 27th July.

FETHARD & KILLUSTY COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Cllr. John Fahey informed the meeting that a sum of €15,000 was awarded to the New Community Sportsfield as a grant from South Tipperary County Council’s Development Fund. This was achieved by the committee’s delegation who made a very successful petition to the members of the County Council at a recent Council meeting in Clonmel.
The resurfacing of the Tirry Centre Car Park was also agreed to go ahead following consultation with Jonathan Cooney. The cost will be approximately €4,000.
It was decided to invite Ms Tess Collins, Tenant Liaison Officer, South Tipperary County Council, to the next meeting to speak on ‘Estate Management’. This should be of particular interest to members of our local resident associations, who are welcome to come along, and those wishing to find out more information on how they work.
The committee have agreed to make two participants of the Community Council’s CES available to supervise at the Tennis Courts for the summer months if required. This should help facilitate supervision and opening hours for the children using the courts.
The next monthly meeting will take place on Tuesday 19th August at 8.30pm at the Tirry Community Centre, Barrack Street, Fethard.
