FETHARD NOTES ARCHIVE

Saturday 14th November 1998

QUEEN OF THE LAND
Congratulations to Lorraine Morrissey who won the national Macra 'Queen of the Land' Competition in Tullamore last weekend. Lorraine, representing Tipperary, was one of 28 finalists in the competition, each representing their individual counties. The winner was announced at a Banquet on Sunday night.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
St. Vincent de Paul would like to remind those in need of their Christmas Voucher Scheme. We are asking people who need a little help at this time of year to kindly fill out a form, which you will find at the back of the Parish and Abbey Churches. Forms are also available from any member of the society: Dinny Burke, Lynne Cummins, Vincent Doocey, Fr. Hourihane OSA, Fr. Sean Ryan and Peggy Sullivan. Please return the completed form by 30th November to one of our Monday evening meetings held between 7 and 7.30pm in the Tirry Centre, Barrack Street, Fethard. Alternatively you can post your form in an envelope through the sacristy letterbox in the Parish Church or to any member of the society.

DEATH
The death has occurred of Mrs Kitty Tobin (nee Aylward), Tirry Park, (formerly Grove). Interment took place in Killusty.

CAR PARKING
Avery careful and law abiding Fethard motorist was amazed on returning to his car in Clonmel recently to find a parking ticket on his windscreen. His car apparently had a wheel on the footpath at Staunton Row, where he had parked for a very short term. The footpath here is at least 12 feet wide and the kerb is at road level.
He was not amused to find on returning to his native town to find parked cars completely blocking the footpath on both sides at the narrowest part of Main Street. This inconsiderate parking, within 100 yards of a free empty car park obliges pedestrians, including young mothers with buggies to step into the Main Street traffic to get by.

ANGLING CLUB
The 7pm mass in Fethard Parish Church on this Friday Nov 20th will be offered for all deceased members of Fethard/Killusty Angling Club and all riparian landowners.

THANK YOU
Fethard Red Cross Branch wish to thank sincerely all who supported their recent church gate collection in Fethard/Killusty and Moyglass.

TABLE QUIZ
The Nano Nagle School Parents Association promote a table quiz at Pat O’Shea’s bar on Tuesday next Nov 24th. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

GAA
One up, one down might best describe Fethard GAA results last weekend.
Fethard intermediate hurlers gave a mighty display in their quarter final Co Tipp Intermediate game at Templemore on Sunday last. They led by a six-point margin at half time. Two rather soft goals concealed immediately after the re-start quickly wiped out their lead. Despite their beat efforts they had to give best to their more traditional hurling opponents Silvermines, by a like margin six points, at the final whistle.
The junior B football team, who were actually entered in the championship as an afterthought won their south-final junior B championship game at Clonmel on Sunday last against Fr Sheehy’s. This very useful youthful combination ran up once again the impressive football score of 3-17. Captain Billy Prout’s speech on receiving the cup was an inspiration. They gave a most impressive display and look quite capable of going all the way.
Fethard contest another final on this Saturday, when the junior A team travel to Clonmel to take on Moyle Rovers in the South Tipp Junior A football Final.
