Sacristan retires
The announcement t the 11.30 Mass, at Fethard Augustinian Abbey on Sunday last that the Abbey sacristan, Mrs Jø O'Connor, had retired, brought an end of an era in Fethard. Jo joined the Abbey choir as a teenager and as a member of the choir and her very long term as sacristan. She gave 77 years faithful service to the Abbey Church and has been an integral part of the day-today running of the church for the greater part of this century.

The wedding took place at Fethard Parish Church on Friday August 29th of Edel, daughter of Mr Gus and Mrs Maura Neville, Kilnockin, to Mr Pat Hannigan, Cobh.

Fethard GAA Sports Centre tennis team in their first season in competition have reached the final of the Div. III of the Co. Tipperary Tennis Association league.

The wedding took place in Cloneen Church on Thursday August 28th of Monica, daughter of Mr Michael and Mrs Rita Kearney, Friarsgrange, to Mr Kevin McCahery, Manchester.

Tommy Hubbard, Cahir, who has been delivering the Sunday Independent to Fethard for the past 48 years has retired.
Tommy, who reached Fethard each Sunday morning before most of the citizens realised a new day had dawned, was one of the old school.
He never missed a delivery and seemed to always get through floods, frost or snow. Tommy often enquired for the O'Shea brothers, Paud and Jimmy, St. Patrick's Place, with whom he played in the old Duffy Circus band in the far off '40s. We wish him many happy years in retirement.
